Uber and Bolt do not operate in Serbia. Serbia’s professional taxi licensing requirement prevents gig-economy platforms from operating — all commercial passenger transport must use fully licensed taxi drivers and registered vehicles. This applies across all Serbian cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and beyond.
What does work: Yandex Go in three Serbian cities, CarGo in Belgrade, and licensed metered taxis across the country. This guide covers every option, city by city, with current 2026 fares and exactly what to download before you arrive.

Yandex Go
Cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac Type: Licensed taxi association dispatch platform Payment: Cash or card in-app Download: iOS | Android
Yandex Go has operated in Serbia since June 2018 and is the most widely used ride-hailing app in the country. It works with licensed taxi associations — including Pink Taxi since a February 2026 partnership agreement, as reported by Serbian Monitor — covering 32 associations in Belgrade alone.
Fare is shown before you confirm. Real-time tracking. Phone booking also available (19810) but card payment requires the app. This is the default download recommendation for any traveller to Serbia.
Note: Yandex is a Russian company. If this is a concern, use CarGo in Belgrade.
CarGo
Cities: Belgrade only Type: Private licensed drivers (cashless) Payment: Card only Download: Search “CarGo Serbia” on App Store or Google Play
CarGo operates in Belgrade with private licensed drivers rather than taxi associations. Fully cashless, upfront pricing, similar UX to Bolt or Uber. The Serbian-built alternative for travellers who prefer not to use Yandex. Coverage is Belgrade-only.
Pink Taxi
Cities: Belgrade Type: Licensed taxi association — now dispatched via Yandex Go Payment: Cash or card (via Yandex Go app)
Pink Taxi is Belgrade’s largest licensed taxi association. Since February 2026, it operates as part of the Yandex Go platform. Ordering through Yandex Go will route to Pink Taxi vehicles. Pink Taxi still maintains its own phone line (+381 11 19803) for direct bookings.
Street Taxis Across Serbia
In cities not covered by Yandex Go — Niš, Subotica, Novi Pazar, and elsewhere — licensed metered taxis are the standard option.
How to use them safely:
- Take cars with a lit taxi sign and a visible meter
- Confirm the meter is running before the car moves
- Do not get into any vehicle without a meter or where the driver quotes a flat rate upfront without a meter
- Night tariffs (10pm–6am) run approximately 20–30% higher than daytime on most Serbian taxi meters
Avoiding unlicensed taxis: pirate cabs (divlja taksi or wild taxis) operate in all Serbian cities and target tourists. They are identifiable by: no lit taxi sign, no meter, approaching you proactively at transport terminals. Never enter a vehicle that approaches you at a bus or train station without a visible taxi sign and meter.
Belgrade Airport Taxis: The Voucher System
Belgrade Airport operates a fixed-price zone voucher system. Collect your voucher from the TAXI INFO desk in the Baggage Claim hall before exiting — it shows your destination and the locked fare. Present it to the driver before the journey starts.
Official zone fares from Belgrade Airport, per beg.aero:
- Zone 1–2 (most of central Belgrade): RSD 2,300 (~€20)
- Extended zones: RSD 3,700 (~€32)
Yandex Go also works at the airport for pickups — meet the driver at the designated ride-share parking area outside the terminal.

Belgrade Public Transport: Free Since January 2025
For most journeys within Belgrade, the free public transport network eliminates the need for a taxi app. Buses, trams, and trolleybuses have been free for all passengers — including tourists — since 1 January 2025. No ticket, card, or registration required.
GSP Beograd operates 176 bus lines, 12 tram lines, and 8 trolleybus lines. Tram Line 2 (Krug Dvojke) covers the historic city centre in a 45-minute circular loop.
